Marketing that sparks change.

Lisa ProctorWe are made of light.

Scientists trace our origins to star dust. So why should our brands be anything less than brilliant?

My agency, firefly180 marketing, was founded with the passion to build brands that spark change. And we’ve done exactly that. Working with clients that include Target, Jack Johnson, David Rockefeller, Jr. and more,  we are honored to uncover the light within new and existing brands. We shape it. Amplify it. Then radiate possibility and purpose in the form of text, images, colors, typography, websites, social media, public relations and events.

Business is an extraordinary force for change. And marketing can be a power for good. All you need is intention. And the knowing that the light within us is a mirror for the light that surrounds us.

Marketing—Branching Out

Lisa ProctorWhen it comes to work and life, I’ve got the best seat in the house. Yes, I spend plenty of time at my desk, but when I’m looking for inspiration, I often find the roots for the best ideas in trees.

As the head of an advertising and marketing agency that works with progressive, world-changing businesses and organizations, I am so privileged to experience the light and aliveness found between the lines of an ad, the vibrancy of an image or the power of a well-run campaign.

Trees and business have much in common—starting with the fact that they both contain seeds that grow, transform and keep reaching higher.  And in the same way that rings found within a tree mark its age, the layers of brand strategy that inform how a business represents its message, product or service—signals how it makes its mark in the world.

So if you’re looking for a little perspective, climb a tree. It’s a radical shortcut to putting your business on top.

One Planet. One Ocean. One Promise.

We live on a planet with one big beautiful ocean.

We are inextricably linked to the sea. And it is as alive as we are.

So is the passion of one conservation organization,  my client, Sailors for the Sea. Founded by philanthropist and environmentalist David Rockefeller, Jr., this organization is a collective rallying cry for the sailing and boating community—as it navigates a new course toward ocean health.

As  president and creative director of firefly 180 marketing, I am deeply honored to be part of the creative and strategic evolution of this extraordinary organization.

Brands tell their stories in many ways. Logos, taglines, websites, brochures, events, social media and more. Working in collaboration with Sailors for the Sea, we are exploring them all.

There’s a powerful story about a little boy who finds thousands of starfish washed up on the sand. He begins to throw them back one by one. When he’s asked how he can make a difference, he answers that he can make a difference to the one he holds in his hand.

This much is true. Whether it’s the collective light of fireflies, or the action it takes to save one living thing, we as individuals and organizations are powerful beyond measure. After all, the inner light of starfish nestled on the sea floor is just as brilliant as luminous stars in the night sky. At Sailors for the Sea, we are navigating toward the light.

Navigating Brands.

As I prepare to move my office from the lakes and rivers of Minnesota to the salty seas of Santa Barbara, California, I’m also navigating the evolution of brands. And on this Turkish yacht anchored in Newport, Rhode Island, I’m harnessing the creative winds of change for an extraordinary ocean conservation organization, Sailors for the Sea.

Founded by David Rockefeller, Jr., Sailors for the Sea educates and activates the boating community toward healing the ocean.  And who better to lead the charge then those who experience first-hand the challenges the ocean now faces. Whether that means eliminating trash and plastic waste, reducing chemical toxicity, or fighting climate change and ocean acidification by lowering our carbon footprint, there are virtually limitless actions big and small we can all take to be part of the solution.

At firefly180 marketing, we chart the course for brands that effect positive change. It’s a collaborate process that is much like sailing. We scan the horizon for current markets and consumer or constituent perceptions, we assemble the right team to sail the ship and through brand architecture, messaging strategy, web design, content, grassroots engagement, ads, graphic design and more—we fill an organization’s sails to get them where they want to go— fast.  And always by having fun.

As businesses, we head into the unknown and deep into exploration every day.  It’s when we keep our eyes to the stars and our feet firmly planted, that we continue to chart new courses—discovering new adventures daily, along with rich rewards.

Barefoot Marketing

There’s nothing like marketing with your feet on the ground.

And on this spring day when the snow is still melting, the promise of new beginnings can be felt in the heart, sole (and soul).

One of the extraordinary things about living in a land of four seasons is that you feel them all. My favorite is spring. This is a time when everything is waking up. There’s an aliveness above and below ground that can be felt before being seen.

As the head of an advertising and marketing agency that works with businesses that effect positive change, the feeling of spring often comes at the launch of brand strategy. This foundational strategic work is like dark, rich soil planted with fat, luscious seeds that have yet to sprout.

The tender green shoots that do rise up are in the form of creative—websites, print and digital ads, direct response, media relations, logos, identities and more.

The art of advertising and marketing is much more than an office endeavor. It’s a practice that requires ongoing observation, exploration and the willingness to keep your feet on the ground in every business climate. Especially when the ground is wet, cold, slushy—and just waking up.
