Marketing that sparks change.

Lisa ProctorWe are made of light.

Scientists trace our origins to star dust. So why should our brands be anything less than brilliant?

My agency, firefly180 marketing, was founded with the passion to build brands that spark change. And we’ve done exactly that. Working with clients that include Target, Jack Johnson, David Rockefeller, Jr. and more,  we are honored to uncover the light within new and existing brands. We shape it. Amplify it. Then radiate possibility and purpose in the form of text, images, colors, typography, websites, social media, public relations and events.

Business is an extraordinary force for change. And marketing can be a power for good. All you need is intention. And the knowing that the light within us is a mirror for the light that surrounds us.

NT3 Pledge—Give the Ocean Some Love!

Lisa Proctor & David Rockefeller, Jr.

There’s all kinds of ways to express love. You can say it with a kiss. A hug. A note. A box of chocolate. And you can say it by taking action.  Join me and Sailors for the Sea founder, David Rockefeller, Jr. and thousands of others this Valentine’s Day by taking the Sailor’s for the Sea NT3 Pledge (No Trash. No Trail. No Trace.)

The ocean is in peril. It absorbs more carbon emissions than rainforests. That carbon is changing ocean chemistry. It’s called ocean acidification—the evil twin to climate change.

“Salt water and human blood are equally sensitive to changes in acidity (pH),” says Rockefeller. “If the acid level gets too high, ocean shells and corals-just like human bones- are subject to being dissolved. The result is that 20% of the world’s food supply could disappear, and coral reefs, which are nurseries for young fish could vanish entirely.”

At firefly180 marketing, I’m not only a brand strategist and creative director, I’m a passionate environmentalist. I am so honored to join my client Sailors for the Sea in launching the NT3 Pledge campaign—what could be the most significant ocean conservation movement of our time.

I’ve already taken the NT3 Pledge to reduce my carbon footprint. It’s so easy. So powerful. And it feels so delicious. (Even better than a box of dark, organic chocolate!  So take the Pledge. What better way to express your love this Valentine’s Day!

Marketing—Branching Out

Lisa ProctorWhen it comes to work and life, I’ve got the best seat in the house. Yes, I spend plenty of time at my desk, but when I’m looking for inspiration, I often find the roots for the best ideas in trees.

As the head of an advertising and marketing agency that works with progressive, world-changing businesses and organizations, I am so privileged to experience the light and aliveness found between the lines of an ad, the vibrancy of an image or the power of a well-run campaign.

Trees and business have much in common—starting with the fact that they both contain seeds that grow, transform and keep reaching higher.  And in the same way that rings found within a tree mark its age, the layers of brand strategy that inform how a business represents its message, product or service—signals how it makes its mark in the world.

So if you’re looking for a little perspective, climb a tree. It’s a radical shortcut to putting your business on top.

Living & Marketing on the Edge.

Life is about balance. It’s also about finding your edge. And walking it.

It’s about moving into the unknown. Dancing in the mystery. And being willing to sit in the still of creation until the spirit begins to move. As a advertising and marketing creative director, I am called to create again and again.

Each time is a leap of faith. A catapult into the unknown. Words and strategies come forward in much the same way as art emerges  from stone when a sculptor reveals art simply waiting to awaken.

There is freedom in creation. And joy. There are brand essences waiting to express themselves. Culture shifting to take place. Social and environmental movements to be born. People to reach. Audiences to educate and activate.

So find your edge. Run its length. Dance in its mystery. And  catapult your brand into the fire of creation. There you’ll find passion. Purpose. And profit for both your business and soul.

On a Marketing Mission to Turn Business Upside Down.

Business is the most powerful force for change on the planet.

And with clients like Jeanine Thompson, (left) president, Jeanine Thompson, LLC and Leah Simon-Clarke, founder, Extrados Salon  (right), transformation is clearly, joyfully and beautifully underway.

As president & creative director of an advertising and marketing agency that works with organizations that effect positive change, my role is not to manufacture messages…but rather to bring my clients’ stories to light. To find points-of-uniqueness, benefits, believability…shake them up, turn them sideways—and sometimes upside down.

At the core of great brands is true authenticity. But brands sometimes get lost in their own noise. Leaders can get caught up in concern about market forces, competitors, consumer preferences and how their brand can appeal to wider and wider segments. But the truth is, brands that want to be a lot of everything, amount to a lot of nothing.

What stands out, are brands who are unabashedly fearless about being true to themselves. Who celebrate their uniqueness. And never lose sight of the fact that each us as individuals—and as organizations are here to support, serve and do what we can to make life better for our clients, customers and communities.

If that turns your business paradigm topsy-turvey, then I invite you to hang out with extraordinary leaders like these who are not just doing well—they’re doing good.

The Business of Loving our Warrior

While on Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara recently, I found my warrior. Reversed it. And loved it.

It seems only fitting that on this Valentine’s Day, I am loving our inner strength as business leaders. Our courage. Our warrior. And our power to do good.

As president and creative director of firefly180 marketing, a mobile and global marketing agency that works with businesses and organizations that effect positive change, I dance in the the power of love daily. Loving corporate missions. Loving customers. Loving creative.  Loving products. And loving great strategy.

To succeed in business, we need the strength of our warrior. But we also need its open-hearted reverse. Life is a delicate balance. So is work. Too much pushing results in exhaustion and creative fatigue.  Opening and allowing, replenishes us. Nourishes those places deep within that need re-charging. And creates space to allow new ideas and opportunities to flow.

Business is the most powerful force for change on the planet. And I love how that empowers us all.

The Sacred Space and Marketing.

All spaces are sacred. And The Sacred Space in Summerland, California is especially so.

Equal parts retail and transcendence,  Dorbe  (her childhood nickname for Dorothy)  who works at the store, brushed light onto a Buddha with gold-leaf as she talked about her workshop that helps attendees discover their Buddha essence—so they can bring it forward by painting it onto a Buddha or Quan Yin.

As president and creative director of firefly180 marketing, that’s what my team and I do with brands. There is joy in discovering their essence —and transcendence in painting it on with communication strategies, words, graphics, colors, images, headlines, websites, social media and more. Brands are pure essence. They are how customers connect emotionally with businesses and products.

And when strategy and creative are applied just right; they glow with the radiance of gold leaf.

Mermaids, Marketing and Work as Art.

I was born in Santa Monica and learned to swim in the ocean.  I have always been convinced that I was a mermaid.

As a girl, I would cross my ankles in salt water and wait for the moment my gangly legs would transform into a graceful tail. I still do.

While walking along the beach in Santa Barbara, I came across a street (or sand) artist  who made his living by making mermaids.

And I realized that I make my living in much the same way. As president and creative director for an advertising and marketing agency that specializes in working for clients who make change in the world—I make art.

While my medium is different…words, type, graphics, social media strategies, web design, ads and brand architecture—it is art all the same.

My art is like sand. Brands are always changing. Time and market conditions wash away old campaigns and strategies much as the sea does with sand sculpture. The beauty is, there is always new art waiting to emerge. Just like my mermaid tail.

Bluebirds, Winter & Marketing Moments.

Today at my office, the temperature with windchill is -25 F. When temperatures drop this low, the sky becomes bluer. More crystalline. And the snow on  the path to my office squeaks as I take each step. It’s almost as if the cold gives the snow permission to sing on days like this.Such is the song of bluebirds of happiness. They’re found everywhere. On cold days. On busy days. Even here in my office. It’s these moments where my dog Cleo, CHO  (Chief Happiness Officer)  interrupts the tapping of my keyboard for a quick hug.

As president and creative director for a marketing and advertising agency that specializes in working with clients that effect positive change in the world, I am especially attuned to happiness. I also know that happiness sells. And why wouldn’t it? It’s something we all aspire to—yet is often overlooked when we step out of what’s present—and wish instead for something different.

As marketers, happiness is also a communications strategy. As consumers, we’re hardwired to buy products and services that make us FEEL GOOD. Fortunately for me and my team, we are incredibly fortunate to work with social change marketing, organic promotions, culture shifters, change agents, yoga marketing and more—all of which are pure goodness to their core.

They beauty for me at firefly180 marketing, is that ads, radio, posters, websites, social media…and every messaging channel in-between is an opportunity to connect with the desire for consumers to feel good. Do good. And to look good.

Thanks goodness for businesses and organizations that are changing the world for the better. And better yet, thank goodness for bluebirds that can be found even when temperatures dip to -25.

Marketing in the Flow.

As I walked the beach in Carmel after spending the morning working on brand architecture for a client, I took a moment to savor the salty sea air and watch the pelicans form ancient patterns in the sky.

On this crystal day it was also clear that for me work and life are very much in balance. It wasn’t always so. In fact, there have been years in my career where even taking a deep breath felt much too time consuming.

But today, I’m doing more in less time, with less effort—and I’m more creative than ever. Welcome to life in the flow.

Work doesn’t have to be hard. Pushing against a tide of tasks doesn’t  get us far. It’s only by surfing the wave that we find the ease, freedom  and exhilaration that’s available.

As president and creative director for a mobile and global advertising and marketing agency that works with businesses that are creating positive change in the world, My teams and I work with companies that are creating quantum culture shifts within organizations of all kinds.

To bring forward that level of creative and strategic work, it all begins with walking our talk. And we do. (At least most of the time.) And when we find ourselves feeling crushed by a wave of deadlines, I encourage us all to get back on our boards and surf once again.

When work and life are aligned—it’s one beautiful ride.
